O JEEP LARANJA – THE ORANGE JEEP

                Quem se lembra do Ford Jeep 1978 do Felipe? Quem se lembra quando ele adaptou um sistema de gás de cozinha, cujo botijão ficava debaixo do banco traseiro, que por sua vez ficava mais alto que os bancos da frente? E o sistema de injeção de querosene na ventoinha do motor, que ele acionava toda vez que se aproximava de um posto policial?

                "Who remembers the 1978 Jeep Ford owned by Felipe? Who remembers when he adapted a system that used cooking gas cylinder under the rear seat of the car as fuel, which  was higher than the front seats? And the kerosene injection system to the engine fan, that he triggered every time he approached a police station?"

                Na última foto, uma daquelas saídas sem destino certo que Felipe fazia de moto (Honda CG125) em busca de novos locais para praticar o vôo livre. Não tardaria para ele comprar uma moto mais adequada para estas aventuras – uma Honda XL250.

                Felipe e Berenice casaram-se em 1968, quando ele tinha 26 anos e ela apenas 18.

                Felipe and Berenice were married in 1968, when he was 26 and she only 18.

                Não sei bem o que o motivou a casar-se tão cedo, mas naquela época se casava muito cedo, e se tinha muitos filhos. No caso de Felipe, apenas um casal.

                I'm not sure what motivated him to marry so early, but in that time the people usually got married very early, and had many children. In the case of Felipe, just a couple.

                Sabe-se que sua família não aprovava este casamento, pois Berenice era “escura”, isto é, não era de descendência letã, e o que quebrou as resistências, segundo soube, é que seu irmão Jair Pintor era pastor evangélico – quem, aliás, já havia se casado com a irmã de Felipe – Zelfa Wasser.

                It is known that his family did not approve this marriage, because Berenice was "dark", or she was not Latvian descent, and what broke the resistance, as I learned, is that her brother Jair Pintor was an evangelical minister - who, incidentally, had married the sister of Felipe - Zelfa Wasser.

                E para a família de Felipe, de origem evangélica, um pastor (apesar de sua cor) era bem-vindo.

                Interessante notar que não veremos Felipe vestido com terno de novo desde que deixou o altar e a religião que professava...

                Agora que me encontro em Paraisópolis, e escuto o vento lá fora sacudindo as árvores e desanimando as pessoas de ficarem do lado de fora de suas casas, achei muito conveniente postar estas fotos de Felipe Wasser.

                Now I find myself in Paraisópolis, and listen to the wind outside rattling the trees and discouraging people from staying outside their homes, so I found it very convenient to post these pictures of Felipe Wasser.

                São fotos de fevereiro e maio de 1983, em uma Paraisópolis (sul de Minas Gerais) bem menor, quando eu ainda era um garoto.

                These are pictures of February and May 1983 in a Paraisópolis (south of Minas Gerais state) and smaller, when I was a boy.

                A rampa ficava na Pedra do Machadão (posso vê-la de minha janela), e o acesso, para os dias chuvosos – como os das fotos apresentadas – era terrível: a estrada de terra ficava muito escorregadia e exigia muita destreza por parte do motorista.

                The ramp was in the Machadão stone (I can see It from my window right now), and Its access in the rainy days - as the photos presented - was terrible: the dirt road was very slippery and required great skill by the driver.

                O mais interessante era que nem o tempo ruim atrapalhava Felipe e seus amigos – Paulo Pingaiada, Yutaka Nacamura -  de realizarem seus vôos.

                The most interesting was that neither bad weather hindered Felipe and his friends - Paulo Pingaiada, Yutaka Nacamura - to make their flights.

                Pernoitávamos no Hotel Patriarca, na época propriedade de um amigo seu – Zé Carlos.

                We stayed overnight at Patriarca Hotel, then owned by a friend of his - Zé Carlos.

                E o vento, ah, este ainda continua presente, e tão forte que nos impede até mesmo de voar... Mas fico contente que mesmo com as mudanças climáticas tão presentes em nossos dias, os ventos ainda são os mesmos!

                And the wind, this is still present, and so strong that even prevents us from flying ... But I am glad that even with climate change so present in our day, the winds are still the same!
