Felipe Wasser e Embraer – Juntos Construindo o Sonho de Voar

Felipe Wasser and Embraer - Together Building the Dream of Flying

Interesting as the destiny approached Felipe, with his yearning to fly, to a company that also was born with this same dream. He joined to the Company when it was still a subdivision of the CTA (PAR) (brazilian ministry of aeronautics).

He worked there from 1969 until when he died in 1987, working in the project area, where he made many friends and is still remembered as a very fair to his former subordinates.

Among the most interesting memories I could redeem from my memory was a fact that occurred in mid-1970 when the director of the engineering department, Guido Pessoti, decided to go through the section and at the end of business hours, at the place where the office staff hit the timecard to leave.
Felipe and Guido in this picture

There was a long line, about 15 minutes before the signal sounds, and Guido scored the first 15 people from the line (do not remember the exact number) and told the human resources department to fire them.

Dentre eles, Felipe! Aliás, quem souber quem são os demais, favor me dizer... Disseram-me que o Costinha estava lá também.

There was only a problem: among these 15, there were professionals who held project knowledge that no other designer in the newly formed company owned. Among them, Felipe! If you know who are the others, please tell me.

So comes Eng Masao to ask Guido to overturn his decision, arguing that if he fire them, could even close the design department of the company ... The argument must have been accepted by its truth!

Felipe had become a project supervisor in the aerodynamics area and had a team that enjoyed working with him. Then, one day his chief asked for a change of one of his employees, to work under another supervisor. This guy (a descendant of Japanese, I do not remember the name - if anyone remember, please tell me!) Was chosen to go, even  not wanting to, and to protest, he began to wander by the company, refusing to work. When asked why, he was emphatic - wanted to continue alongside Felipe.

This is more recent: our friend who just retired, Jair Cardoso, had an altimeter plane kept in his drawer, unused. And Felipe was already flying hang gliding wings at that time and was wishing the altimeter. Jair was no fool and knew the desire of Felipe, but to cheat him, and knowing that he hated the smell of cigarette smoke, has promised that he would give the device (usefulness to Jair ...) if he let him smoke beside him one entire day. Felipe was reluctant, but eventually accepted, and Jair, taking advantage of the situation, smoked more than ever that day, throwing puffs of smoke in Felipe’s face until the end of the day. Felipe got the object of desire, but how expensive that cost to him!

In early 1980, he was invited to become "Chefe de Seção" (almost manager) but he refused, because as supervisor he had already suffered so much when he had to fire someone, and as he told me at the time, he liked to have time do get home – an habit that he should renounce if he had accepted the invitation.

Until now in the company he is remembered with great nostalgia, by former subordinates and friends. There are many stories yet, but them could be told by his contemporaries. I leave this blog opened for contributions.

Algumas muito antigas – Some very old.

“I don't know when this pic was taken, but shows that early He was already linked to height.”

O Aerobote – The Aero boat

“One day, he decided to make a propeller using his own knowledge of aerodynamics, and this done, we can see where he used it:”

“He adapted it to a 148 cc engine in July 1977 and then fixed it in a rack, and then fixed the rack to a common boat:”

“In the early 80's, he put the rack on board of his wind surf (without the sail). However, as can be seen, was very unstable laterally and the rack fell off the surfboard, sinking in the “Rio do Peixe” (fish river) channel, near Roncador waterfall, in São José dos Campos (SP northeast state).”

“Felipe took the end of a rope and dived into the middle of the flow, and disappeared for 5 minutes, causing many of us thought he had drowned. Then he appeared and shouted, "you can pull now" and so he rescued his toy.”

“He also innovated, as you can see in this car that belonged to me (I'm on his back), walking in the neighborhood.”

“His biggest project was not realized: he had won a Yamaha motorcycle engine 180cc and would engage the propeller to the engine, hold it to a hang glider and make his own trike.”

“I did it after his departure, but according to subject matter expert, the trike did not fly because the engine was very high speed and the tips of the propeller entered into the vacuum of one another, stealing efficiency.”

Voando em Caraguatatuba – Flying at Caraguatatuba (north coast SP state)

“The picture below shows the Free glider, which has an interesting history.”

“Once a guy took off from Santo Antonio hill (Caraguatatuba city) ignoring the formation of a CB (storm cloud), and he was pulled disoriented and flew until he could get out of it. But this guy was seen flying over the Atlantic jungle.”

“He landed over the threes and waited for help, that arrived by helicopter.
After a few months watching that little white point in the middle of the green, the boy announced that anyone who ventured through the jungle and recovered his glider, would be the new owner.”

“Well, as you might expect, the adventurer on duty Felipe met 2 more friends and get out into the woods, however, began the tour at the foot of the mountain. A whole weekend and did not reach the glider.”

“Felipe did not give up. He made an airplane fly over the region to better recognize the ground and scored a holiday to go to the rescue of the glider, but this time going down from the top of the mountain.”

“Neither the accident that had occurred to him at the end of last week prevented him from going again, along with his friends Cezar Cruz and Fizo. With his right arm in plaster, was ahead, barefoot (his friends also tried to walk barefoot through the bush, but did not stand the pain) wielding a knife with his left hand until they reached the goal.”

“They climbed the tree, disassembled the glider and returned to the orange jeep, after 2 days of adventure.”

“Summary of the story: Felipe gave the glider to the two friends, who made some flights with it, until one day, the former owner appeared, and threatened Fizo and Cezar, and, failing agreement, he took the wing back . And they allowed to avoid further problems.”

Destes, me lembro do Giba e Giordano.
Contribuição de Giba (yellow T-shirt)
“I remember when Felipe went down to the coast to fly, where we met a group who live there. From them, I remember only Giba and Giordano.”

Setembro (september) 1984
Olha aí a foto que lhe falei, Giba!

Itália em 1974 (Italy in 1974)

"Felipe went to Italy in early 1974, where he worked for 4 months. As we can see in the picture below, the design of the famous EMB120 Brasilia was already "out of the oven":"

"But this trip is not only summed up the work, as shown in the photos below:"

Só pode ser sacanagem...
It just can be a joke...

"After 3 months in Italy, his wife Berenice was there to spend the last months with him, leaving us in Brazil. They say that after an so great absence, I started to tell everyone that my father had died (I was 4 years old then), and he had to call Brazil by telephone - something very difficult and expensive at the time - to talk to me and to show that still alive."
Felipe, Berenice, Pio e Otair (esq. Para dir. – left to right)

Lhes garanto que as fotos eram coloridas – o tempo lhes roubaram a cor.
"I assure you that the pictures were colorful - the time stolen the color."

"As the time has been over 30 years, many memories have faded. The photos, not so much as the photo below that Pio paddling hard while Otair take a picture and Felipe poses. Varese on Mar, 24 1974."
Alguém tem que fazer o serviço duro...
"Someone needs to do the hard work..."

"Felipe had a habit of turning off the lights before the curves to see if cars came in opposite hand while driving at night. He told me that, in Italy, he did the same at high speed driving the car down, but the system was different from the Brazilian cars, and he was unable to turn it on again and pulled the car immediately. When he finally stopped It, found the switch and when he finally reconnected the car lights, was facing with a cliff."

"There are many more photos of his adventure in Italy, but the most fun and interesting are contained in slides, and I need some special equipment to rescue them."

"There are many friends that Felipe did during its relatively short life, and among all, Pio and Otair are few of them who I never had contact."
